Capital Campaign
The Gospel Complex is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is three
fold – promoting education, recognizing the rich heritage and preserving the
gospel music genre in our community and nationally. Our success relies heavily
on the community support and involvement of those within the South Florida
region and around the world.
The purpose of the campaign is to build a facility that brings together the rich
history, dynamic performances, and a community educational program that’s roots
is based in gospel music. In doing so, our priority is to secure and steward
private gifts that will support the capital goals of the Complex, advance our
community programs, and the mission of gospel music as a whole.
Private financial support comes to the Complex in many ways and from those who
are passionate about gospel music. Some friends direct gifts to a particular
program; others make unrestricted gifts that are used for the Complex’s greatest
needs.

Ways You Can Give
Friends of the Complex may select from a wide variety of methods of
tax-deductible contributions to the Gospel Complex. Among them are:
Cash – Checks made payable to the “Gospel Complex” can be directed to any
area of the Complex.
Stocks – Gifts of stocks and other securities are welcome. Gifts of
appreciated securities may completely avoid capital gains taxes. Donors receive
credit based on the fair market value of the securities donated.
Your Company’s Matching Gift Programs – Many companies match employees’
gifts to non-profit organizations. Contact your employer for details and
restrictions.
Goods and Property – Gifts of tangible goods and property, including real
estate, may be accepted depending on the nature and utility of the items. Gifts
given in kind could also include an automobile, boats, computers, and much more.
Pledges – Contribution plans over a period of years are welcome and
encouraged, especially for the creation of a naming opportunity (i.e., $30,000
payable over three years).
Estate Commitments – Gifts through the estate plans of individuals and
families are accepted. Useful vehicles for estate commitments include wills,
trusts, life insurance policies, retirement funds, and others.
Endowments – Endowed funds are essentially a savings account from which
only the annual earnings may be spent for the specified purpose. The principle
of the gift is never spent. Donors may contribute to any of our already existing
endowment funds (e.g., maintenance endowment fund, etc.). Donors may also create
a new endowment with a gift of $50,000 or more and may name the fund.
Planned Giving – Planned gifts, or commitments made via estate planning,
offer ways to leave a legacy and help the Gospel Complex expand our community
educational opportunities for future generations. Many of the friends of the
Complex have included us in their estate plans.
Because these types of gifts can be highly customized, Dr. Angelique Grant Ph.D.,
our Campaign Coordinator, your attorney, and/or your financial adviser can work
together to suggest the most attractive option for you. The Complex does not,
however, provide legal or tax advice. Inquires and plans are kept confidential.
Gifts are publicized only with donor approval.
Some planned giving options include:
• Will Provisions
• Charitable Remainder Trusts
• Charitable Gift Annuities
• Charitable Lead Trusts
• Property with Retained Life Use
• Life Insurance
Some of the many possible benefits to you as a donor making a planned gift are:
• Income Tax Savings
• Capital Gains Tax Savings
• Estate Tax Savings
• An Income Stream to You or Others
• Increased Income from a Low-Yield Asset
• Ability to Make A Significant Gift to the Complex
For gifts of trusts, life insurance policies, wills, and life income
arrangements, the appropriate designation is “the Gospel Complex, a non-profit
organization.” Suggested willed language is available on request.
Corporate and Foundation Support
We need to add a list of Corporate/Foundation supporters over the past two years
and list them here….along with a paragraph that states how this support is
instrumental in what we do.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q. Why a Gospel Complex?
A. Gospel Music is ingrained in American culture, yet, unlike several other
genres of music that have facilities dedicated to preserving their archives,
Gospel Music does not have a home in which to house its artifacts, memorabilia,
historical documents and recordings.
The Gospel Complex brings together
the rich history of Gospel Music in one central location. The mission of
The Gospel Complex is to promote, preserve, and perpetuate the evolving history
of Gospel music through education and economic empowerment.
Q. How much will the Gospel Complex cost?
A. The cost to build The Gospel Complex is $60 million dollars. This
figure represents the cost to build as well as a reserve to operate for 3-5
years.
Q. Where exactly is the Gospel Complex going to be built?
A. The Gospel Complex will be centrally located in the City of Lauderhill on the
corner of Sunrise Blvd. and State Road 7/441. The location of the Complex
is 1 mile from I-95 and The Florida Turnpike.
Q. Why is the Gospel Complex going to be built in the City of Lauderhill?
A. In addition to being centrally located, The Gospel Complex will be
located in the midst of $450 million dollars of redevelopment. This is an
ideal location for The Complex as it is part of this development as it adds to
The Gospel Complex's sustainability.
Q. When is the Gospel Complex scheduled to be completed?
A. The Gospel Complex is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2010.
Q. What is your Tax ID #?
A. 20-5058406
Q. What can I do to help?
A. In addition to supporting The Gospel Complex through a donation, you could
also help by becoming Ambassadors of The Gospel Complex and sharing information
about this wonderful facility.
Q. What if I want to make a gift/pledge to the Gospel Complex?
A. Complete the gift/pledge form and send your check payable to: The Gospel
Complex, address, city, state, zip or call (305) 322-1950.
Q. Is a portion of my gift held for fundraising costs?
A. No! 100% of all gifts to the Gospel Complex go towards the capital and
programmatic efforts of the organization. Gifts are not taxed or charged to
cover the costs of fundraising.
Q. Why does the Gospel Complex need private gifts?
A. The Gospel Complex is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization and must raise its
own funds to support its programs and activities.
Q. How much am I expected to give?
A. Only you can decide the size of your gift. Charitable gifts of all sizes are
significant and are gladly accepted.
Q. Is there a minimum needed to establish an endowment?
A. Yes. The minimum amount needed to start an endowment is $50,000. Endowments
create a permanent funding source because only the interest they generate each
year is expended.
Q. May I give a stock certificate?
A. Yes. You may be able to give substantially more, plus you may receive more
favorable tax credits by doing so.
Q. Can I give equipment or supplies to the Gospel Complex?
A. Gifts of tangible goods and property, including real estate, may be accepted
depending on the nature and utility of the items. Gifts given in-kind could also
include an automobile, boats, computers, and much more. Please take a look at
our “Gifts In Kind Wish List.” If you make a commitment to provide gifts
in-kind, you will be recognized for the value of those future gifts and gifts
that have been properly documented. Documentation through a receipt, invoice, or
other instruments must be submitted at the time the gift occurs.
Q. Are all gifts tax deductible?
A. Gifts are fully tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Q. How is the Gospel Complex accountable to donors?
A. All gifts are used in strict accordance with the donor’s wishes and are
deposited directly into an existing or newly created fund set up specifically to
benefit the purpose designated by the donor. All of the Complex’s activities are
monitored by the Board of Trustees and audited by a certified independent
accounting firm.
Q. How can I start planning my gift to the Gospel Complex?
A. The Complex’s Campaign Coordinator would love to help you plan and make your
gift a reality to benefit the Complex and advance it’s mission and goal to
become the best gospel performing arts Complex in the nation. You are encouraged
to plan your gift with the guidance of the Campaign Coordinator and
legal/financial council. This ensures that the largest possible gift can be made
to the Complex at your own least possible net expense.
Q. How can I get involved with the Gospel Complex campaign efforts as a
volunteer?
A. If you are interested in volunteering on our fundraising committee, please
contact our Campaign Coordinator, Angelique Grant. You are also welcomed to
organize and conduct a fundraising project where the proceeds go directly to the
Gospel Complex’s campaign efforts. Right now we do not have a structured
volunteer program for those who are interested in volunteering.
