Mastering the Arts through the Pursuit of Education
and Training
The Education Development Team for the Gospel
Complex for Education and Preservation has created
the initial stages of a program to promote
continuing education through the arts as well as
provide opportunities to pursue degrees in various
disciplines in higher education. In collaboration
with Broward, Dade, and Palm Beach County Public
Schools, together with Nova Southeastern University
and Florida Memorial University the program is
designed to offer a seamless curriculum of education
and training to participants in the arts and
entertainment industry.
Mission:
The mission is to provide the educational tools
necessary to ensure the success of high school
students desiring to work in the gospel music
industry and to provide participants in the gospel
music industry with opportunities to earn degrees in
order to maintain a competitive advantage in the
market place.
The mission, as it relates to high school students,
will be accomplished through application of the
following objectives:
Objective 1:
Through the Summer A+ High School Honors Music Camp,
students will be engaged in preparatory education
and training in Communication and Performing Arts,
for a comprehensive two-week time period in the
summer.
Objective 2:
The Education Development Team and artists from the
music industry will mentor and coach these students
in order to ensure their successful retention and
graduation.
Objective 3:
The Education Development Team will assist in career
counseling and serve as a clearinghouse for lifelong
learning and professional growth.
Objective 4:
Develop a campaign to promote community ownership of
student achievement, higher education, and family
literacy.
The mission, as it relates to industry
participants, will be accomplished through
application of the following objectives:
Objective 5:
Individual advising sessions will be provided to
every artist who expresses an interest in pursuing a
degree program.
Objective 6:
Assistance will be provided to help the artist
identify ways and means of financing their degree
program.
Objective 7:
Mentoring and coaching will be provided, upon
request, by the Educational Development Team.
Objective 8:
Support in job placement and continued lifelong
learning opportunities will be available to
completers.
The mission, as it relates to attracting global
interest, will be accomplished through application
of the following objectives:
Objective 9:
To provide opportunities for Dr. Bobby Jones, as
visiting professor, to share knowledge and
experiences as co-professor in the Master’s Program
for Interdisciplinary Arts, Fischler School of
Education and Human Services at Nova Southeastern
University
and the Bachelor of Arts Degree Program, Visual and Performing Arts
at Florida Memorial University.
Objective 10:
To provide opportunities for selected gospel artists
to pursue a degree through the Fischler School of
Education and Human Services at Nova Southeastern
University
and/or
Visual and Performing Arts Program of Florida
Memorial University.
Objective 11:
To provide awareness sessions at the bi-annual
gospel industry retreats.
Status of Accomplishments
• The Education Team has received approval to
develop a business plan for the Summer A+ High
School Honors Music Camp from the Fischler School of
Education and Human Services. Initial research for
funding through grant opportunities is underway.
• The Visiting Professorship position at the
Fischler School of Education and Human Services at
Nova Southeastern University and at Florida Memorial
University have been approved for Dr. Bobby Jones.
• Three administrators from Sheridan Broadcasting
Company have expressed interest in beginning their
master’s program in March 2007.

Bryant Scott, president of Tyscot Records has begun
the process of enrolling at Nova Southeastern
University for his doctoral degree.
• The mother of basketball star Dwayne Wade, Mrs.
Jolinda Wade, who is also a member of the Gospel
Complex’s Board of Directors will begin a bachelors
degree program through NSU’s School of Education in
March of 2007.
• Six other well-known gospel artists have been
working with us to support higher education and
youth programs--as they prepare to pursue their
personal higher education degree programs. These
artists include: Dottie Peoples, Lil IROCC, Canton
Jones, Tye Tribbett, Donald Lawrence and V. Michael
McKay.
• The Director of the Master’s Program for
Interdisciplinary Arts, Dr. David Spangler has
identified three classes that will be taught and
co-taught by Dr. Jones with Dr. Spangler beginning
with the March 2007 term.
• Dr. Jones will also serve as reactor for students
in the preparation and presentation of two capstone
presentations. The dates will be announced and the
events will be open to the public.
